At Forum Communications Printing, we know that the quality of your printed piece starts with files that are prepared properly.  We've made it easy for you, by giving you a checklist for file preparation and step-by-step instructions on preparing PDF files along with our Photoshop color settings to ensure the most accurate reproduction possible.

​Most Common File Errors

Some common errors to watch for include: 
  1. Low resolution images and photos.  To ensure the best quality, your images should be a minimum of 300 dpi. If resolution is too low, your images will look fuzzy or blurry.
  2. File is created as the wrong size. Sending your file in the wrong size can cause a delay on your project, as you will need to make the corrections and resubmit a new file with the correct sizing. 
  3. Not enough bleed in the file.  (Bleed is the printing that goes past the edge of where the sheet will be trimmed.) If you don't provide enough bleed, it may result in a thin area of white on the edge. 
  4. Page items are too close to the trim size.  This can result in your image or text being trimmed off the page. 
Proofing.  We'll provide proofs in the format that best works for you.  Many clients like the speed and convenience of electronic PDF proofing.  Some still prefer to see a hard copy proof.  You tell us what you prefer and we'll make it happen.

This will help a CMYK file displayed on your monitor in Photoshop to look as close as possible to a proof or final printed piece. Also if you convert from RGB, grayscale or LAB to CMYK it will help to convert the image optimized for printing.
